When the water table dropped, in the 1930's, for the South Texas Plains "Winter Garden" region, business also dried up for the town of Los Angeles.   And as the once abundant wealth of all the farming evaporated, so did all the local trading at Gobert's General Store. Today, corporate agricultural giants have renewed much of the irrigation farming. However, corporate management neither patronizes local barber shops nor purchases supplies at local feed stores, so Ghost town economies remain economically haunted.
